I came across an interesting Facebook status today.
That girls shouldn't mess around with someone else's boyfriend/fiance/husband. Or vice versa.
It was quite bold. I like it. But I don't agree with it -at all.
I can see the values it is trying to bring and where the writer was coming from. But no, it is just not right. Let me tell tell you my two penny worth of thoughts.
Everybody at one point will have a boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife (not necessaryly everyone, but mostly). You could be 15 or you could be 50.
Most of people flirted with you if they think you're single. You might not say it out loud but through your actions and your behaviour, you might have SINGLE written all over your face. And it's always OK to flirt with a human with SINGLE status. So if your boyfriend/husband, girlfriend/wife was behaving like a single man/woman please do not blame other people who flirted with them. Single people doesn't have responsibility to bother themselves with your relationship. But you do. If you care enough.
Ok, your boyfriend/husband/girlfriend/wife has a 'friendly' personality. They are too polite to ask the single ladies and men to shut up or they're too shy to brag that they're married/in a relationship. So, naturally they will politely leave the 'flirty' conversation or.. were they flirting back? Oh ya, and he/she told you that they were just being 'friendly' and 'don't want to be rude'. In that case, you should be proud of your other half. He/she was being so thoughtful and was just trying to be friendly. Single men/ladies will only go away if they are being told off. They will stay -if you're 'friendly' or 'don't want to be rude'.
Simple. If you want them to go away and you think they're inappropriate, ask them to leave. Let them know you're married/in a relationship. Ranting it off in your Facebook won't solve the problem. If you want it to change, YOU have to make a decision. YOUR partner has to make a stand. YOU BOTH need to have a common ground on how you would see and handle this thing. I am with you, simple things like this, if not dealt with now -may grow bigger, deeper.
I believe you that there are some people who still flirted with people who they knew are in a relationship. I've read a lot of times that married men are wanted more than the bachelors. But there will be people who has low moral, everywhere. Everyday. But why you and me, need to lower ourselves to their standard? Why we want to make them significant? They're not even worth talking about -not even if Facebook. If either you or your partner met people like this; you just need to make a point and be blunt. They don't deserve your respect so please, don't try to be 'friendly'.
But remember, there are always two sides of the coin.
And you're not always, on the right side.
